There is a word often associated with fashion: drama. Excess, commotion, fame. Dries Van Noten, however, is a calm man. Tremendously demanding, precise, and endowed with an eagle eye for flaws, without a doubt—but also a citizen at ease with his relative anonymity, his rose-filled garden, and his steadfast vocation. It took Holzemer four years to persuade the elusive Dries to take part in the project. The result is a beautiful exploration of the most human side of the craft: dialogue, research, craftsmanship, teamwork, subtle humor, exhaustion, and starting over. From Antwerp to Calcutta via Paris, the viewer encounters exquisite craftsmanship, unexpected fabrics, the occasional awkward moment, and the global influence of an aesthete who follows his own path.
